Nstar officials were in Stowe yesterday examining gas
meters removed from the site of a July 26 gas explosion that flattened a
Hopkinton home and killed two sisters.
The cause of the blast has not been determined, said
Jennifer Mieth, a spokeswoman for the state fire marshal's office.
Investigators are examining appliances, gas meters, and piping taken from
the scene.
Heath and Tara Carey, whose children, Iris, 4, and
Violet, 5, perished in the explosion, have retained an attorney. The
couple's gas bill for one meter tripled after it was replaced in May. The
meter is believed to have supplied the dryer and stove, sources said. Nstar
has said there is no record of any recent work.
